Each Division in Gwent elects an officer of constable, sergeant and inspector rank to represent the officers of that Division (C Division elects two from each rank - one for the North and one for the South of the Division). Constables vote for the constables representative, sergeants for the sergeants rep, and so on. Inspectors and chief inspectors are combined for federation purposes. You can find out who your representative is by clicking on the appropriate picture above.
All the constables representatives from the various divisions meet up regularly to discuss issues affecting the constable rank. This meeting is called the Constables Branch Board, or CBB. Sergeants and Inspectors have meetings in exactly the same way, and in doing so form the Sergeants Branch Board (SBB) and Inspectors Branch Board (IBB). Each meeting will discuss matters relating to their specific rank, although often, of course, an issue will cross ranks - shift systems for example, affect all ranks. Periodically, all the representatives from every rank meet up to discuss matters relating to them all. This is the Joint Branch Board (JBB) meeting. This meeting is usually held just after the individual boards have met, so that matters concerning each board can be bought to the meeting. Each individual branch, ie constables, sergeants and inspectors, will have elected their own chairperson, who will chair meetings of that rank. The Joint Branch Board will also elect a chairperson, who can be of any rank. Our current chairman in Gwent is Pc Jeff Mapps.
